Match 3 spinoff of the hit arcade game

Subway Surfers Blast is a free-to-play puzzle game from SYBO Games. This standard fare match-three experience is the spinoff of the popular Subway Surfers game. As such, expect the same bright colors, the use of street art-inspired designs, and other urban elements to be in every corner of the game.

Unlike its larger predecessor, Subway Surfers Blast focuses more on strategy and planning than lightning-fast reflexes. Steady difficulty progression and generous rewarding mechanics make it an excellent alternative to other games like Candy Crush Saga or Bejeweled Stars Free Match 3.

Subway Surfers, but with puzzles

Subway Surfers Blast is the puzzle-type version of the hit Subway Surfers game. Known as one of the most popular endless running games, Subway Surfers was well known for its humor and use of urban designs for all parts of the game. From casual character outfits to graffiti creations scattered across the levels, players would find the same elements in this Match 3 game title.

As a Match 3 game, it has the same standard premise. You switch the position of any two blocks to create a row of three or more similar tiles. Longer chains and other conditions, such as cross-shaped or L-shaped patterns, would unlock unique tiles. Its gentle scaling ensures you can keep up with the game’s increasing difficulty levels. You also have a room that you can personalize.

The game features its fair share of ads, but not too much. Instead of bombarding you with unskippable ads, it incentivizes watching them by giving the player an extra life or a power-up. Despite its steady difficulty progression, note that you only have limited lives lost when you fail a level. You can, however, replenish it by in-app purchases, watching ads, or waiting a set period.

A fun and challenging puzzle

For fans of the Subway Surfers franchise over the years, Subway Surfers Blast is worth checking out. Granted, the gameplay experience is fundamentally different, but it retains a lot of the unique elements that gave the franchise its identity. Its gradual difficulty scaling allows most players to keep up, although failure will most likely steer players toward ads or in-app purchases.

PROS

  • Steady difficulty progression
  • Good use of match 3 mechanics
  • Retains Subway Surfer art styles
  • Incentivizes ad watching
